JOB DESCRIPTION:
Serve as focal point for
and develop strong client relationships with Technical
Development (TD) leadership & scientists in support
of biopharmaceutical process development, formulation
development, manufacturing scale-up, and methods
development of small-molecule, large-molecule protein and
antibody therapies, partnering to:
. Understand the processes, plans, objectives, drivers,
and issues related to this scientific business area
. Develop, communicate, and execute on a business-aligned
IT strategy that will contribute to the success of Biogen
Idec's research efforts
. Develop business cases, secure approval & resources
required to pursue the development of new capabilities
& investments, manage the development of requirement
specifications related to these, and charter & guide
the efforts of matrixed project teams in their
implementation
. Direct the proper execution of IT projects and
services; ensure that the appropriate delivery-side &
architecture resources are available to support &
sustain projects; negotiate priorities and support
requirements with shared services & infrastructure IT
The successful candidate will work with scientific
leaders to ensure that IT has a role within all major
strategic change initiatives and that the value of IT
consultancy is recognized by the scientific leaders. S/he
will act as a change agent to align the scientific IT
portfolio with business strategy, the IT strategic plan
and corporate IT architecture, and is responsible for
communications between the scientific business area and
other IT. S/he will responsible for guiding the
prioritization of the IT portfolio by the scientific
leadership, and coordinating portfolio activities. In
addition, s/he will represent the business requirements
of Technical Development scientists within the corporate
IT organization, and will be responsible for assessing
& communicating impacts of strategic IT initiatives
on behalf of Technical Development.
The position reports to the Director, R&D IT, and is
located at our Cambridge, MA facility. Since the
Technical Development organization has laboratories in
Research Triangle Park, NC in addition to Cambridge, MA,
at least quarterly visits to scientists in RTP are
expected as part of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
. 10+ years' experience working as an IT professional,
with at least 5 years' experience in an IT leadership
role
. 5+ years' experience in IT program management and/or
business analysis
. 5+ years' experience in a scientific or biotech/pharma
environment and familiar with drug development processes
for small-molecule drugs & large-molecule biologics
(antibodies, proteins). Specific domains include
bioprocess development, cell culture & analytical
development, process chemistry, and CMC.
. Experience with information systems for lab assay data,
process & methods development, data query &
analysis, lab automation & LIMS, and inventory
. Keenly developed business partnering &
collaboration skills, adept at establishing &
sustaining effective working relationships, both within
& between departments
. Demonstrated successful management of IT projects,
including scope, financial, and schedule goals
. Experience working with solutions delivery teams such
as corporate IT infrastructure/architecture, applications
development & integration, and support in the
implementation and maintenance of scientific computing
platforms & applications
. Ability to operate effectively in a matrix environment;
team player
Desirable:
. Specific experience with IT solutions in the Technical
Development domain, such as Chemstation,
Empower/NuGenesis, LIMS/ELN, PI, PLA, and/or Discoverant
. Familiarity with lab instrumentation, such as mass
spec, chromatography, bioreactors, and process control
systems
. Familiarity with GxP and related regulations governing
successful transition of drug candidates into clinical
trials & manufacturing
