Performance Responsibilities Under direction of the
Dean, Literature and Languages the following examples of
duties are required:
1. Teach Mass Communication classes, which may include
Introduction to Mass Communication, Public Relations and
other courses as needed.
2. Participate in curriculum development, design,
implementation and evaluation.
3. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a
full-time faculty member including, but not limited to
the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused
under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department
course outlines, keep accurate records of student
enrollment, attendance, and progress; post and maintain
scheduled office hours; participate in departmental
meetings and college and/or district wide activities and
committees as assigned.
4. Must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic
backgrounds of community college students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Faculty/Educational Administrators complete the
Equivalency Application only if you do not meet the
minimum qualifications for the position you are applying
to, and you wish to be considered. 1. Must meet
one of the following qualifications under (a) through
(c): a. Posses a Master's in radio, television, film,
mass communication, or communication, journalism. b.
Posses a Bachelor's in any of the above and Master's in
drama/theater arts, communication, communication studies,
business, telecommunications, or English or the
equivalent. c. Or, possess a combination of education and
experience that is at least the equivalent to the above.
Candidates making an application on the basis of
equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in
addition to all other required materials. 2. Sensitivity
to and understanding of the diverse academic,
socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic
backgrounds of community college students.
Desired Qualifications 1. Evidence of ability
to teach Introductory Mass Communication and Public
Relations.
2. Evidence of successful experience in teaching other
college-level communication studies courses.
3. Willingness to become involved in department, division
and college level issues, meetings and governance.
4. Evidence of an understanding of teaching a diverse
community college student population and the ability to
work with a diverse population of students and staff.
Conditions of Employment Contract (tenure track),
full-time, two semesters per year. Assignment may include
day, evening, and weekend classes.
Location: Orange Coast College
Start Date: Fall semester - August 2009

Salary Range Salary Schedule A $45, 557 - $77,671
annually Based on the 2008/2009 salary schedule
Pay Philosophy For a full-time, two-semester
position a maximum starting range of $45,557 to $77,671
is offered, based on the 2008-2009 salary schedule of
$45,557 to $108,617. In addition, and annual stipend of
$2,752 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate
from an accredited institution.

Additional Required Qualifications Certificates
Work Schedule 2 semester, Tenure Track, (175 days)
Benefits: The District provides a comprehensive

month following the first day of regular employment.

discussing your philosophy of teaching Introduction to
Mass Communication. - A typed essay, not to exceed one
page, describing one of your college course assignments
including the rubric or criteria you use to evaluate it.
- A typed essay, not to exceed one page, discussing what
courses you would propose adding to our current Mass
Communication curriculum. Include a rationale for your
proposal.
NOTE: Candidates selected for an interview will be
required to give a teaching demonstration. The
requirements for the teaching demonstration will be
defined by the interview committee and will be given to
the candidates at the time of interview scheduling.
NOTE: Candidates selected for an interview will be
required to provide "unofficial" transcripts of
ALL undergraduate and graduate course work. Please
highlight the degrees awarded on the transcripts.
Official transcripts or certified copies are not required
at this time. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS WITH
APPLICATION.
