JOB DESCRIPTION: The
Senior Director, Public Affairs, will be responsible for
overseeing global public relations and communication
initiatives to support Biogen Idec's marketed therapies
and pipeline programs. The position will report into the
Vice President, Public Affairs and be based at the
company's Weston, MA headquarters.
Primary Responsibilities
. Overseeing/developing and executing full-scale global
communications plans around marketed products and major
pipeline programs, including creative campaigns and
product launch plans, that support our business
. Proactively building relationships with key health,
consumer, business and trade media to raise visibility
for the company's products/pipeline and leadership
. Innovating and executing on ideas to build and drive
company's reputation as a biotechnology leader, including
leadership in multiple sclerosis/neurology, through
traditional and digital media
. Overseeing product PR firms in support of
products/pipeline
. Developing and maintaining effective personal
relationships with key external stakeholders, including
media, corporate partners, patients/patient
organizations, and medical professionals
. Developing and maintaining effective personal
relationships with key internal stakeholders, including
senior commercial and R&D leadership; overseeing
media training for senior executives
. Working closely with partner companies to ensure both
Biogen Idec and partner needs are met in a professional,
respectful, and efficient manner
. Developing and executing crisis preparedness and
response plans
. Developing and executing select internal communications
support for senior commercial stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS:
. Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills,
including ability to lead and/or effectively serve on
cross-functional teams with internal partners in
commercial, R&D, investor relations, legal, and
members of Public Affairs team
. Strong planning and organizational skills; fundamental
understanding of the business
. Abreast of global biotech/pharmaceutical industry
trends, including regulatory, legal, compliance, and
policy developments
. Innovative and flexible - not simply following the
industry playbook
. Excellent written, verbal and strategic thinking skills
. Interpersonal savvy, especially with senior management;
global experience preferred
. Ability to effectively manage people and mentor a small
staff
. Good listener ? is self aware
